Uti Wins Big Brother All stars 2010
After a thrilling 91 days of entertainment, the Big Brother Africa All Stars finally came to an end this past Sunday with the Nigerian housemate Uti Nwachukwu emerging as the ultimate winner.
The host of the live show broadcast on DSTV channel 198, IK revealed that the race between the top two was tight with Uti being voted for by eight countries while the runner up Munya of Zimbabwe got 7 votes. The final five housemates were Sheila, Mwisho, Lerato, Munya and Uti. Sheila was the first to be shown the door, followed by Mwisho and then Lerato leaving behind the favourites, Uti and Munya. The moment of truth finally came. It?s Uti, announced IK. Munya who had survived about nine evictions on the Big Brother All Stars house looked very surprised and disappointed when Uti?s name was mentioned. Munya shed uncontrollable tears as he walked onto the stage, while Uti kept asking himself how he won the game.
Uti also won an extra $1000 in addition to his $200,000 ultimate prize because no housemate was able to discover his secret. The finale featured performances from MI, Jesse Jagz and 2Face as well as Wyre from Kenya. This season of Big Brother Africa was thrilling with various twists and turns including the ?barn? to Meryl and Mwisho?s engagement. Dull moments were rare.

Easy Ways to Extend Mobile Phone Battery Life
1. Charge!
The golden rule. Charge often ? most people find that it?s easier to leave a charger by their bed so that they can give their mobile a full overnight charge each night. Many people also use their mobile phone as their alarm clock, and so this seems like common sense. If you don?t need it to be on while it?s charging then turn it off ? this allows the device to start afresh each day and will clear its memory and make it run more quickly and reliably as a bonus.
If you spend a lot of time in the car and use your device for GPS or satnav then invest in a car charger or your battery is going to take a thorough beating and will probably run out leaving you stranded! Car chargers can be had for well under a tenner, so invest. If you haven?t got a car, I?d suggest probably spending the money on something else, like a nice pie and a half decent bottle of wine ? and maybe some cake.
*
2. Turn it off when not needed
If you?re going to be at the gym or swimming for an hour or two and your phone is sitting in a gym locker, turn it off. It?s not like you can use it or answer it and having it sitting in a box will make it work harder to seek out and maintain a signal, draining the battery more quickly than would be the case normally ? plus you won?t annoy other people! You also get the benefit of the phone being restarted meaning that it will run better when you do switch it back on! Same goes when eating out or at the cinema or theatre when it would be considered antisocial to use your phone ? turn it off!
*
3. Turn off Wi-Fi
Having wifi enabled on your phone will make it look for wireless connections and maintain a connection to them if they are known networks that you have previously joined. If you?re not using your phone for wireless internet or e-mail on a frequent basis then turn Wi-Fi off and reclaim the power this uses.
*
4. Turn off Bluetooth
If you?re not using your Bluetooth headset or headphones and not synchronising your device with another device over Bluetooth then turning off Bluetooth can extend your battery life significantly. It is worth disabling Bluetooth to save battery and also from a security perspective to prevent unauthorised users trying to connect to your device and access it. That said, anyone walking around a supermarket using a bluetooth headset to hold a conversation deserves poor battery life, so if this is applies to you then please keep Bluetooth enabled, and keep your voice down in future ? nobody cares what you?re having for dinner.
*
5. Turn off 3G
3G might give you fast internet access to check the news, the football results or suchlike, but it will absolutely hammer your battery in the process. Turning off 3G and forcing your device to use just the GSM / 2G network to route calls and data will have a dramatic effect on battery life and moreover you will even find that it increases the reliability of your voice call connections in many cases. Using GSM can increase your standby time by up to 50%!
*
6. GPS / Satnav
OK, so posting your exact location to Google Latitude so your friends can find you might be a funky idea every now and again ? but in reality, constantly looking for satellites in the sky to try to triangulate your position costs valuable battery power, and if they want to know where you are that badly then they can text or call you ? it?s a phone after all, remember?
Turn off GPS and kill any GPS-related apps when you are not using them and you?ll be amazed at how much longer your battery lasts. Essentially if you know where you are, your phone doesn?t really need to and any location-based services should be disabled unless needed.

Driving in weat weather , tips on saving fuel
I decided to write this blog post because we are currently in the middle of a rainy week in Swaziland . Many drivers aren?t used to driving in the rain around here and when it does rain, you end up with accidents, flooding, mud-slides and other rain related problems.
So here are a few rainy day driving tips that could not only help you stay safe on the road, but could potentially improve your fuel economy in the rain as well:
1) Quick acceleration and/or breaking fast can reduce your fuel economy by up to 33% on the highway. With slick roads and sometimes poor visibility due to rain, a good tip is to slow down and give a little more room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Your vehicle does not react the same on a dry road as it does on a wet road, so you?ll need to compensate for the difference.
2) Watch out for areas of standing water. Areas of standing water could cause your vehicle to hydroplane or if the water is deep enough, could cause your vehicle to get stuck. Especially if it?s the first rain after a long dry spell, you?ll have the concern of oil and other spilled fluids that can add to the slick surface of the road. While it may be fun to go racing through a ?puddle? to watch water splash everywhere, you never know what that puddle could be hiding.
3) Ensure your tires are in good condition. Worn out tires have shallow grooves and don?t provide the type of traction you need when driving in the rain. Improperly inflated tires can wear your tires down faster and affect your ability to maneuver on wet roads. Plus?don?t forget, tires can lose up to a pound of pressure for every 10 degree drop in temperature. And unaligned tires can create unneeded friction while driving and this too can cause tires to wear out and lower fuel economy.
4) Ensure you and your vehicle are properly prepared for a rainy day drive. Although I recommend having basic emergency supplies in your car at all times, when you go out driving in the rain or snow this becomes even more important. Accidents and traffic are commonplace in bad weather and you should be prepared for that. Ensure your car has a basic emergency kit, water, blanket(s), snacks, etc. Fill up (or fully charge your vehicle if you have an electric vehicle) before you head out. You can also use a proven fuel additive to add to your fuel economy. You never know when a ?short? drive can turn into a long trip.
Basically, when it all comes down to it, your vehicle and fuel economy are not the same in dry conditions as they are in wet, rainy conditions. You must factor that in when driving in the rain. So before you head out for work, school, errands, etc. brush up on your ?Tips for Driving in Rain? so you can have a safe and happy drive!

Big Brother All Stars: Is Munya set for the Big Prize ?
Zimbabwe?s Munyaradzi Chidzonga has officially survived 9 nominations and could very well be the winner of Big Brother 5.
His 9 votes against Uti's 6 last week makes him odds on favourite to win this weekend.
Of course it all remains to be seen as viewers vote for their number one Housemate for the moola.
All US$200,000 of it.
The prize money had been reduced to US$180000 11 weeks ago when Biggie took away twenty thousand dollars for damage done during the riot.
Big Brother has now restored it to the full amount on Sunday, saying that the contestants had shown their commitment to global action in support of the Millennium Development Goals.
Biggie said: "Your ongoing dedication to the fight against Malaria across the continent has been observed; and your discussions in the house around gender, ethnicity, community and poverty have provoked involvement and comment from many viewers..."
Nigerian contestant Uti Nwachukwu congratulated Munya and toasted to him when the eviction show was over and the top 5 remained. He also pointed out that South Africa?s Lerato was the luckiest contestant on the show, she didn?t protest.
Undoubtedly she is also the least popular as well.
Munya?s name was the first to be called by IK when the time came to name and shame the Housemates to exit the House. Naturally he was very tense until IK assured him that he was safe.
He then moved onto Kaone and put him out of his misery fairly swiftly. Uti was then declared safe and Tatiana made her way to centre stage as the second Housemate to be evicted.
Ironically enough, Tatiana and Uti were the first two to be evicted in the show?s first dummy eviction which turned out to be fake.
Regarding votes, Tatiana and Kaone got no votes at all whilst Munya got nine votes over Uti?s six so going into the final so we all know who the man to beat is.
As usual the evicted Housemates got to have a little bit of power over what happens in the next week of the show in the form of throwing daggers.
Tatiana threw her Dagger at Sheila, with the following instructions: "One Housemate must change clothes three times a day, and must entertain the other Housemates by dancing seductively and stripping every evening after dinner for ten minutes."
Uti is sure to enjoy that week-long show. As for Sheila, although she has expressed her dislike for the Molotov, she did say she was going to have some fun with it seeing as there was no other way she could tackle it.
Kaone threw his Dagger at the other female contestant Lerato, with the following instructions: "One Housemate must be a jukebox. Every day, all remaining Housemates may request the jukebox to sing (and dance) any one of their favourite songs after dinner."
Lerato was already serenading Biggie at her diary session so she looks set to enjoy this Molotov.
Both Daggers took effect from Monday morning.
Before signing off I must say Big up yourself to Tatiana; she managed to wrangle Kaone?s secret out of him just hours before eviction and managed to bag his US$1000 bringing her total to US$3000 after cracking Lerato?s secret some weeks ago.
Meryl, Jen, Hannington, Yacob, Paloma and Sammi managed to leave with their US$1000 still intact. It was just Kaone?s luck that the Tart managed to break into his kitty hours from freedom.
The Angolan guessed that Kaone had been a jail bird once. He denied it and stuck to his guns even as the lie detector contradicted him in the glasshouse.
Lerato?s secret was that she has piercings in hidden places.
Uti, Sheila and Mwisho still have their cash intact whilst Munya revealed his secret to Tatiana months ago in some demonstration of trust or the other. I fail to see the reason therefore Munya but hey, it was your money to give away after all.
You can help your favorite housemate to the top prize by text or online voting. Follow this link for details:

Sihlangu loses again, Bafana Held
Sihlangu lost again on the trip to Congo while SOUTH Africa and Sierra Leone played out to a goalless draw in their African Cup of Nations Group G soccer qualifier in Freetown last night.
The result followed Bafana Bafana?s 2-0 home win over Niger last month and came on the same day that the Niger outfit upset African giants Egypt 1-0 in Niamey. Niger and Egypt are also in Group G.
Despite their loss to South Africa, Niger showed they are still a force to be reckoned with after a significant win over Egypt at the Seyni Kountche Stadium.
The six-time African champions were stunned by a Niger side determined to write their name in continental football. Moussa Maazou made the difference after a monumental error from Egyptian left back Mohamed Abdul Shafi in the 34th minute of the game. The goal settled the contest.
The result came as a huge boost to Niger who are rated 154th in the Fifa rankings. The defeat means that Egpyt, hot favourites in Group G, have only a point after two matches.
The 11 group winners, plus the top three runners-up qualify for the finals, which are being co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe?s poor start on the road to the 2012 Cup of Nations continued yesterday when they drew 0-0 at home against Cape Verde.
The draw was Zimbabwe?s second draw in their Group A qualifying matches after drawing 1-1 away to bottom-placed Liberia last month in Monrovia. Zimbabwe, led by their England-based striker and captain Benjani Mwaruwari, wasted numerous chances in the first half.
Cape Verde, on the other hand, defended resolutely to stay unbeaten in Group A after opening their account with a 1-0 home win over Mali in September.
The Islanders maintain their lead of Group A on four points while Zimbabwe are third on two points, one behind second-placed Mali, who beat visitors Liberia 2-1 on Saturday.
An own goal saved Cameroon from the prospect of a rare home defeat but a 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo in Garoua on Saturday dented their 2012 African Nations Cup qualifying hopes.
Two dropped points leave Cameroon vulnerable in a tough group where their major rivals Senegal went to the top of the Group E standings after hammering Mauritius 7-0 at home.
Cameroon?s failure to win in new coach Javier Clemente?s home debut was the only surprise result among the 11 Nations Cup qualifiers played on Saturday.
Yesterday?s results: Sierra Leone 0 South Africa 0, Guinea 1 Nigeria 0, Niger 1 Egypt 0, Congo 3 Swaziland 1, Central Africa 2 Algeria 0, Togo 1 Tunisia 2, Zimbabwe 0 Cape Verde 0, Madagascar 0 Ethiopia 1.

isiZulu-English dictionary launched
The dictionary, published by the Oxford University Press, is the first bilingual edition in 40 years.
The dictionary has alphabetical entries and several examples of the usage of a word where necessary. It is particularly helpful for children who are multilingual.
The Oxford Bilingual School Dictionary: IsiZulu-English is the third in an award-winning range of up-to-date and easy-to-use bilingual school dictionaries for learners in Grades 4 to 9, providing support to IsiZulu children who are learning English, and English children who are learning IsiZulu.
?We at Oxford are proud to continue the dictionary publishing we are known and respected for around the world by expanding our reach into South African languages,? said Oxford Southern Africa Managing Director Lieze Kotz?.
?These dictionaries represent our commitment to enhancing cross-cultural understanding in South African classrooms, and assisting in the teaching of indigenous languages in schools. They give children words to learn with.
?In a country with a linguistic diversity spanning eleven official languages, it is essential that learners are able to access languages other than their mother tongue ? at home, school and later on, in their careers,? Kotz? said.
?According to census information, IsiZulu is the most widely-spoken home language in South Africa ? and that?s why we prioritized the development of this book.?
Said Oxford?s publishing manager for dictionaries, Megan Hall: ?To our knowledge, the last substantial bilingual IsiZulu dictionary was published more than four decades ago. A great deal has changed since then ? in the world around us, the language we use to talk about it, as well as in the way we now make dictionaries.
?Our IsiZulu-English dictionary was made following unique research into what teachers and learners value in a dictionary.
?As a result, it focuses on overcoming the most common difficulties amongst learners.
?It contains thousands of example sentences in both languages to help learners choose the right translation by showing how words are really used,? said Hall.
There is also unique curriculum vocabulary support enabling IsiZulu-speakers learning through English to understand their textbooks in other subjects better.
?Our dictionaries also contain a unique range of extra activities and study pages to allow learners to quiz themselves and develop the dictionary skills required by the school curriculum,? said Hall.
In addition to the activities included in the dictionary, a separate Workbook with games and activities is also available.
The Oxford Bilingual School Dictionary: IsiZulu-English is available in paperback from leading bookshops at a recommended retail price of R104.95.
