Stadium managers fight to keep Soccer City name
JOHANNESBURG (AP)?The man in charge of Soccer City insists South Africa?s iconic World Cup stadium will still be financially successful even if it loses its famous name in a legal dispute.
South Africa?s Supreme Court of Appeal has yet to rule on whether the country?s biggest sports venue should revert its name to FNB Stadium?which it was called before a $500 million renovation for the World Cup.
SMSA chief executive Jacques Grobbelaar said Wednesday the FNB name limits the 94,700-capacity venue?s ability to attract new sponsors and make money. But he said SMSA ?will still be making a success of it? even if it loses the court case.
First National Bank won a ruling in a lower court for the naming rights, but Stadium Management South Africa appealed the decision.

Acer Inc, the world’s No. 2 PC manufacturer, unveiled a range of tablet computers to help it compete with Apple Inc’s iPad, wading into the fast-growing market.
The tablet computer market is becoming crowded as more companies produce the new devices, which fall between traditional PCs and smartphones.
Chief Executive Gianfranco Lanci announced at a news conference in New York on Tuesday that the tablets would have 5-, 7-, and 10-inch screens, running on Google’s Android software. A second 10-inch tablet will run on Microsoft’s Windows.
The company said the WiFi-only models of the tablets would come out in April 2011, while the third-generation (3G)-capable models would arrive about a month later. The 5-inch tablet doubles as a smartphone.
Separately Tuesday, Acer’s rival Dell Inc announced a new tablet that runs on Microsoft’s Windows software.
Acer, based in Taiwan, said it was in talks with U.S. phone carriers for 3G connectivity for its tablets.
No prices had been set for the devices, the company added.
“It’s a gold rush right now,” said NPD analyst Ross Rubin. “Everyone wants to get a tablet product out there.”
Apple’s iPad, a touchscreen tablet that began selling in April, still has an overwhelming lead in the fledgling market. It controlled 95 percent of the tablet market in the July-to-September quarter, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.
“PC vendors and hardware vendors are looking at this market and saying ‘how will I compete with Apple?’” Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi said.
Tablet sales are expected to grow to 54 million units in 2011 and to more than 100 million units in 2012, according to a forecast by research firm Gartner.
Acer also unveiled a screen laptop with two 14-inch LCD touch screens called the Iconia, along with a media store and software called Clear.fi that lets customers stream content on different Acer devices.
Dell’s new 10-inch touchscreen Inspiron Duo looks and runs like a portable tablet but can also be popped into a laptop shell and used like a traditional notebook, similar to one of the new Acer tablets. The Duo starts at $550. Dell has already released the 5-inch Streak tablet.

The Supreme Court of Appeal has reserved judgement in the naming rights battle between banking giant First National Bank and Stadium Management SA (SMSA).SMSA was appointed by the City of Johannesburg to manage the FIFA World Cup venue after the tournament?and is challenging a high court ruling in August that it should go back to its old name.
The matter being contested is whether FNB still has naming rights to the stadium as per their long running contract, or whether hat ceased when the old stadium was demolished to make way for the current 90,000 seater venue.
Fanie du Plessis acting for Stadium Management SA (SMSA) told the Court that the a 2007 agreement had placed no obligation on the management of the soccer complex to put FNB’s name on tickets or programmes.
He said as this meant there was no agreement between FNB and stadium management, FNB;s right fell away. He argued that the naming right to a stadium was created by a contract between two parties who could give effect to such a right?.
SMSA were appointed to run the stadium by the City of Johannesburg. Du Plessis further argued that the contract FNB had was too vague to be enforceable in law. Counsel for FNB Piet Louw argued before the court that the bank had a pre-existing contract for sole naming rights to the stadium.
He told the court : “We are concerned about the commercial rights, not any nicknames”.
He added that the refurbishment done on the site did not replace the right FNB had from 1988.FNB argues that its contract runs on until 2014.
It had temporarily been set aside for the recent football world cup as per FIFA requirements.

Importing WordPress Sample Data
Some wordpress themes are very simple and does not require much intuition to know how the data flows.? Sometimes there are extra custom fields that are unknown and upon installing the theme is pretty hard to know how what data goes where.? I know first hand because when I first?installed the RocketTheme wordpress themes they are soooo complex.?? Good thing they provide a set of sample data for me to?install along with the template.? The sample data doesn?t really link to the pictures that well so you have to relink the images in the articles to the correct path in your domain.
How to?Import sample data into WordPress:
Typically RocketThemes or Themeforest templates have sample data in a WXR file.?? If you look inside your zip file that you downloaded for your theme you will find a file that has that extension (WXR).
- Login to WordPress administration panel
- Click on ?Tools?, ?Import?
- Select the system to?Import from ? in this case, select ?WordPress?
- Click on the Browse button to select the WXR sample file you extracted from your zip template file.
- Click on ?Upload file and Import?
After you finish the last operation you will see all the sample posts, categories, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags added to your blog.? There is at one point that allows you to enter the username which you want to associate your admin user to.? You can enter any name you want.? This can be changed later.
Once the whole sample data import is done you can view your site to see the results.? Scan through your posts in the backend where you can edit each post and see how to customize the site for your own data.? Delete posts, comments or any data you don?t need afterwards once you are familiar with how the template works.
