Josh Groban in South Africa
Music icon Josh Groban be in South Africa in November, performing in Cape Town and Sun City. With over 25 million albums sold worldwide, Josh Groban is one of the world’s best selling artists. The 30 year old, LA native first broke out in 2001 with his self titled debut album and has gone on to release 5 multi-platinum albums, the latest being 2010’s Illuminations. Groban has been nominated for more than a dozen awards, including an American Music Award, a World Music Award, a Juno Award, 2 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award. He has performed with some of the most celebrated artists in history, including Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. In South Africa, he is one of the most successful international artists of the past 10 years, having sold over 750 000 albums.
“It is a great joy for me to return to South Africa,” he was quoted saying.
“It remains in my heart as a country that has inspired me in so many ways and to prepare for my return visit brings back a flood of wonderful memories.”
Groban would perform two concerts at The Superbowl, Sun City on November 26 and 27, and two at Grand Arena, GrandWest, Cape Town on November 29 and 30.
Groban last visited South Africa in 2004. During his visit he was appointed an official ambassador for former president Nelson Mandela’s project 46664.
He has also supported Siyawela, formerly Zamimpilo Orphanage, in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal through his own foundation Grobanites for Charity.
Groban recorded the song Weeping, written by South African Dan Heyman, with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Vusi Mahlasela.
He has sold 750 000 albums in South Africa, making him one of the most successful international artists of the past 10 years.
